  1. Part 1: The Letter That Knew Too Much

    B1 Spanish · 5 min read · Free

The letter begging Yadira not to quit piano knows her secret name for the sea, her hiding place under the floorboards, and a melody that exists only in her head. It's signed: Yadira, age 26.

  2. Part 2: The Chest Full of Birthdays

    B1 Spanish · 4 min read

The piano teacher just played the melody that exists only in Yadira's head. Whatever is locked inside her grandmother's cedar chest, it knows her better than she knows herself.

  3. Part 3: Three Notes Like Rain

    B1 Spanish · 4 min read

By candlelight at Baracoa's broken piano, Melquiades finally keeps a promise he made ten years ago. The truth behind the letters is stranger and sadder than any theory Yadira ever invented — and it ends with an unfinished song that only one person alive can complete.
